Henry S. Stokes: Falsehoods of the Allied Nations’ Victorious Views of History, as Seen by a British Journalist (Shoden-sha New Books, 2013)

Mr. Stokes’s Book Falsehoods of the Allied Nations’ Victorious Views of History, as Seen by a British Journalist in Japanese version became a best seller and its English version is being edited. We have so far presented Chapter 1 to Chapter 4 in this Newsletter.
Prof. Tanaka wrote a unique book review on this controversial book in comparison with John Dower’s book Ways of Forgetting, Ways of Remembering: Japan in the Modern World.
Prof. Tanaka points out that a flexible thinking journalist Stokes rather present objective historical truth concerning Japanese modern history, especially Nanking Incident or Comfort Women issue than academician Dower, who sticks to victorious view of history which arte still prevailing in the world.
